Pesh'ewa found himself leaning against the wall outside of main engineering, trying to catch his breath. The climb from the Bridge to Engineering had been exhausting.
Top Priority, he thought, Turbolifts!. Climbing a galaxy-class starship from one end to the other was near to exhausting and a rather hellish experience for someone of Pesh's size.
Once he had gathered his energy reserves, Pesh'ewa moved forward into main engineering. The site that met his eyes was nearly heart-breaking. Engineering looked like it had taken a direct hit from the attack. Consoles were damaged, the warp core was clearly offline and in need of repairs before it could be re-activated. It seemed as though there was nothing in Engineering that had not been touched or damaged in some way by the destruction.
A deep, almost painful rumble escaped him as he gazed on the devastation. Pesh'ewa ran his hands gently along one of the damaged walls. Fire. That was clear from the charring, but the acrid smell could still be picked up by his senses. He moved towards the nearest officer he could find.
"Who has been in charge here recently?"
"Sir, um, Lieutenant Jameston from the Space station sir. They have been waiting for the new chief engineer. Jameston is over there, sir"
With a nod of thanks to the officer, Pesh'ewa found the man.
"Commander Pesh'ewa, Nike's new chief engineer. We'll be working closely together over the next several days or weeks. Can you give me a report on your current standings?" The other man turned and greeted Pesh'ewa, a look of almost relief washing over his face. The man looked tired and haggard.
"Commander, sir. We are very glad you are here. The station is here to assist you. We have been doing our best, but there has been so much to handle and now things that we thought were working are also going wrong, and..." The younger officer drew a hand over his face and let out a breath.
"I'll take it from here, lieutenant." Then, moving towards the nearest working console, Pesh'ewa spoke,
"All able-bodied and available engineering officers, please report to main engineering as soon as possible. Any other able bodied personnel who are currently free, we are in need of help to get the turbolifts back up and running. Please report to main engineering!"
Then, touching the console again, he sent a message to Commander Pedrick, the Chief of Operations, asking her for her support and assistance as well. Perhaps they could pair up Ops and Engineering officers so they could get double the work done.
"There that should help. Now let's get this place back in tip-top shape. Do we have new consoles? We will need them installed so we can get more work done."
"I'll see to it right away sir," Lt. Jameston stated and then hurried off. Pesh'ewa then began checking over the other areas of main engineering as he waited for others to gather and assist.
