Personality
Tough, to the point kind of guy. Doesn’t put much stock in ‘family’ aside from his marine brothers and sisters. They are the only family he cares about. Having grown up hopping around from place to place, Heath doesn’t always ‘get’ everyone else’s social etiquette. He’s used to relying soley on his survival skills, both in work and personal life.
History
Born on a freighter, Heath quickly learned that his mother only truly cared about herself. Without any father in his life, he was forced to fend for himself. He was stuck gallivanting around the galaxy and on planets wherever his mother’s whims took them until he was old enough to get the hell away from her. It was while on some stupid transport with his mother that the ship was attacked that he met his first Starfleet marines. They had been on the ship that came to their rescue. By the end of that week he had enlisted.
What Heath didn’t have throughout his childhood he found among his marine companions, a real family who would die for each other in the blink of an eye. Heath learned loyalty, honor and sacrifice with them and he never looked back.
After working his way up through the non-com ranks, Heath wanted something more. At the urging of one of his officer brothers he headed to Mars, where he was put through an extensive battery of tests and course at the Officer Candidate School. He proved his worth and was soon on his way as a Second Lieutenant. His hard work and dedication quickly earned him a promotion to First Lieutenant. Upon receiving his orders for the Nike's first voyage, Heath packed up his few belongings and set off. He much preferred the special missions he was apt to be chosen for, and not spending his time with the weaker naval branch officers. Yet, they were not what mattered, it was his marine family that meant the world to him and if they desired him to be on the Nike, then so be it, he would be there.
Since that time, Heath has remained on the Nike for much of the past five years, aside from a few selective missions he was chosen to go on for Starfleet. After each mission, however, he was reassigned to the Nike. Following a rather difficult and secretive mission related to the strife within the galaxy, Heath has just been reassigned back to the Nike, this time with the new rank of Major and a promotion to first officer of the Marines in his division onboard Nike.

Sample Role Play
Heath turned back to his platoon, waving them onward. His eyes never left the building in front of them. His men moved as silently as the wind, until they were all in place.
He looked towards the two men at his side and with the barest incline of his head, the three of them were off, racing towards the building under the protection of their platoon. Just as they reached the entry phaser fire erupted behind them.
“Now!” He shouted at his companions, darting into the blackness of the building. Instantly he yanked on the special light device with his teeth, bathing the three of them in an eerie glow. With his fingers he motioned them forward. Rifle at the ready, they moved silently down the narrow corridor. In a quick motion they rounded the corner prepared for an assault. Nothing came. This was almost too simple. Heath was quickly suspicious.
“Somethings not right,” he told his men, “I have a bad feeling about this.” Yet, they knew their orders, they continued onward, down the stairs, deeper into the bowels of the building. They were almost to their destination and still nothing had interfered. Either these people were stupider than had been expected or they were in for a surprise when they reached their destination. Pressing onward they burst into the chamber, only to find it deserted and empty.
“Damn, they moved it! They knew! Get out! NOW!” He shouted, knowing they had likely set a trap as well. His two men were out of the room before him, as Heath hung back to secure their exit. His suspicious of a trap soon proved correct. Just as he started back out a loud explosion ricocheted off the walls. When he awoke later, he learned that the two men under him had been spared the worst of the blast and had even managed to pull him free from the debris. They were more than just his heroes. They were his brothers through life and death.
