Personality
Alexis is a hard-working, focused individual. When she is engaged in a task, she can often forget the world around her in her desire to complete the task at hand. Although a bit shy and quiet when first meeting new people, once she warms up, Alexis begins to share her happier, joyful, sometimes joking personality with the others around her. Her biggest drawback is her own desire to do everything with precision and perfection. Alexis is loyal, patient, generous, and giving to others. She works hard to make sure her fellow science officers know when they are doing a good job. She is much harder on herself than she would ever be on another member of the crew.
History
Alexis grew up on Beta VI, where both of her parents were engaged in the sciences. Her mother worked on medical research, while her father was involved in geological sciences, helping to plan and grow the colony. During her fifth year of schooling on the colony, her class engaged in a special project to help re-grow some of the local garden areas that had been destroyed by a blight. It was then that Alexis found her true passion, plants!
Ever since that day, Alexis devoured books and information about all kinds of plants. She created her own backyard and windowsill gardens to experiment with different plants. As soon as she was old enough, Alexis knew she wanted to enter Starfleet, where she would have the chance to learn about even more plants around the galaxy.
Pushing herself hard, as is her nature, Alexis graduated near the top of her class at the academy. With her high marks, she was asked to remain on Earth for a time to help the Academy gardens thrive. During this time, she helped bring new life back to plants that others at the academy had been unable to get to thrive. After 3 years of tending the gardens and even assisting with some classes, Alexis was finally assigned to her first space mission.
Onboard the USS Venetian, she traveled to lands that astounded her with the beauty of nature. Her collection of unique plants soon grew and she was begging her fellow science officers for more space to store the wide-variety of plants and vegetation. Her efforts actually paid off when the ships’ replicators malfunctioned for a time, her specially grown vegetables provided rich substance for the crew until the replicators could be repaired. She received a promotion to lieutenant at this time.
Her time on the Venetian drew to a close after 4 years. She was then assigned to the USS Carolina. After working diligently at her post, she was given the assignment of Assistant chief science officer. While serving in this position, she did many things for the crew and the science department.
When the Carolina was attacked by the Borg drone, Alexis was not prepared for what was to come. She had never had to engage in combat herself, but the severity of the situation required her to take on roles that she had never dreamed of. Having watched her chief and close friend perish in the fight, Alexis was terrified and disheartened. She had never experienced such deep, heart-wrenching loss, as the loss of her dear friend.
Now, onboard the Nike, Alexis was asked to fulfill the needs of chief science officer after the loss of their Chief and assistant. Once the ship docked at Utopia Planitia, Alexis received word that she was to remain onboard the Nike as the Chief Science Officer.
Alexis served onboard the Nike for many years as the Chief Science officer, where she earned the rank of Lieutenant Commander. However, shortly after achieving that rank, while on an important away mission, Alexis was severely injured and had to have a bionic prosthetic leg to replace what was severely damaged. For many months it wasn't even clear if she would ever walk again. However, after much rehabilitation back on Earth, Alexis healed and learned to walk again, though she still experiences pain from time to time and receives treatment for it.
Once she recovered enough to work again, she assisted at Starfleet Academy in their science department. When she was fully healed and able to return to full active duty she was reassigned to the Nike. Alexis requested, however, that she not be given a commanding position in the science department, as she felt she needed time to readjust to her new life. Her time, helping at the Academy, however, had sparked a new interest, and she had requested to fill an opening as ship's teacher, while also continuing her modified science duties. She has just recently been cleared for space duty and reassigned to the Nike's new mission

Sample Role Play
The sounds around her were deafening. Alexis wanted to cover her ears, but she knew she could not. Around her debris littered the ground. Alexis held her ground, doing her best to ignore the stench of burning metal and what could only be burning flesh around her. She was not prepared to be engaged in such a battle. She was a scientist, after all. Her job was to worry about her plants and microbes and geology, not combat!
Yet, here she stood, having assumed the station her chief, Commander Jarson had once held. Jarson, Alexis had to gulp back the tears that fought their way to the surface. Now as not the time. She had lost her closest friend, confident and supporter, but she could not dwell on that loss. Not now.
Sparks exploded in the chamber where she stood, fingers frantically trying to stop the destruction of key areas of the science labs that could further jeopardize the crew. The doors to the room whooshed open. Grabbing the phaser at her side, Alexis spun around, heart beating, hands shaking, prepared to fire if necessary. She had never killed before, not before today, that is. Yet, on her way here, she had been forced to fire her phaser as an approaching Borg nearly caught her unawares.
She released her breath when she realized it was not an enemy but rather one of the science ensigns.
“Ensign, I need your help,” Alexis called. “Over here. We’ve got to secure the chemicals in the lab 12 before they lead to further explosions on the ship.” Alexis, who had turned back to her work, heard no response. Turning again, she prepared to spur her ensign into action, “Ens…” her voice drifted off as she caught sight of the burn marks on the young ensigns arm.
“Oh no. Ensign. Sit. We’ll get you taken care of.” She reached for her tricorder, but before she could even approach the ensign, another explosion rocketed the ship, sending her flying across the room. With a muffled thump, her head hit the wall, and Alexis knew no more until she awoke in the sickbay of the USS Nike. Visions of the destruction she had witnessed onboard the Carolina would forever be with her. Yet, now she had a new destiny, a new job she would have to do. She would have to go on even though so many of her dear friends and crewmembers could not. Alexis wanted to curl up into a ball on the biobed and simply let the tears fall, yet, she could not. Her mind raced, her heart beat, and her chest ached for those she had lost. Could she go on? Would the images of that final battle haunt her forever? Only time would tell.
