It took two thousand years to establish and unify the Twelve Colonies. During their existence, the Colonies enjoyed an unpreceded period of cultural, financial and military success, eventually becoming a massive federal republic spanning an entire solar system, with a dozen planets and tens of billions of subjects under it’s control.
It took minutes to completely annihilate it.
Cylons, the former servants of mankind that had rebelled against their masters half a century ago had returned. With vengeance. Employing their technological superiority, they wiped out the vast military fleet of the Colonies with a single strike, leaving the Colonies themselves open for an attack. Billions were eradicated in the nuclear strikes that destroyed every single major city in planetary surfaces.
However, hope is not entirely dead. Thousand of civilian vessels were left stranded in space as Cylons eradicated the planets. Most were destroyed. The remnants of the Colonial goverment however managed to organize the rescue of a fraction of these vessels, which now form the last vestiges of humanity, desperate for survival. The new Colonial goverment, now operating from the vessel Colonial One, faces a crisis that cannot be imagined, where the losses are so great that it is easier to count what has survived then what has been destroyed.
This civilian fleet is protected by Battlestar Imperial, one of the massive war machines of the Colonial Fleet that managed to survive the attack. Now representing the Colonial Military and facing unbeatable odds, it has no choice but to act as the guardian of the Fleet as it escapes from the far larger Cylon basestar fleet. A dream of finding a new homeworld begins build in the hearts of the human survivors.
In another location, there is not much hope left. Battlestar Columbia, the last remaining veteran battlestar of the original Cylon War has also survived the attack. But instead of a civilian fleet it has an military one, the 48th Battlestar Group, believing themselves to be the final remnants of humanity in existence. The group's commander, despite the odds against them, decides embarks on a merciless guerilla campaign against the Cylons, swearing to destroy them or die trying.
However, there is a quality to the Cylons that neither Colonial remnant is aware of. In their quest for better and better technological achievements, they have been able to perfect the creation of new models. The newest, partly organic Cylons look and feel like humans, undistinguishable to even to cellular level. These models have inflitrated the remnants of the humanity, as sleeper agents that are not even themselves aware of their own nature, and agents that operate knowingly, sowing seeds of confusion and distrust in the middle of an already conflicted society.
In the midst of this massive conflict of death, destruction and survival, are countless individuals, Human and Cylon, military and civilian, making their own destiny.
You can be one of them.
