The room was a total shambles. It was obvious that this space had not been touched since the attacks occurred. A sigh escaped Alexis's lips as she realized just how much would need to be done.
Grabbing the PADD she had placed on the counter, Alexis pulled up the records for the science labs. She scanned for what had been done in this space as well as for the orders for cleansing and righting the labs. The records showed that the labs had all be decontaminated, but the actual removal of debris was much further down the list of things to do.
"Chemical labs," she read the description of the space aloud and then mumbled to herself, "good thing the decontamination process has been completed. Wouldn't want to mess around in here otherwise." Next, Alexis pulled up the records for her science team, she had barely met any of them. Some had been injured during the attacks, and the few she had met had been transferred off the Nike already. Whether it was their choice or Starfleets she didn't know and didn't care.
"No chemical specialists currently on staff," she sighed as she looked over the duty assignments. It looked like many new, young science officers were being assigned to the Nike, but very few of them had arrived yet. She still had to get things righted and the inventory taken.
"Guess I better get to work," her voice echoed in the empty space. Grabbing a pair of protective gloves, Alexis began moving broken objects, clearing shattered glass, and checking the workability of all the current equipment. Some, it was clear, would need replaced, others might be fixable, and others still seemed almost untouched.
"Just like us," she said to the empty space - those that were lost to them, those that were trying to piece their lives back together, and those that seemed unscathed by the attacks. Alexis pushed that thought aside, throwing herself full force into her work, allowing it to help her forget for awhile all that had happened.
Yet, there was one thing she didn't want to forget. A face swam before her eyes. A smile. Those blue eyes. That laugh. Alexis couldn't help but feel a lift to her spirits at just the simple thought of the one person who had made her feel more welcome than anyone else had been able to do in days. She couldn't wait until a time when she could look into those blue eyes once again.
A glance towards the far right corner of the lab revealed some equipment that had fallen under the work tables. With a heavy sigh, Alexis got down on her hands and knees and scooted under the table to try and retrieve the valuable equipment.
