Personality:
Lizzie (as she is known to most people) is a kind, friendly, independent person. She has spent much of her life learning how to fend for herself, and therefore is great at taking charge and leading others in certain situations. However, even with her friendly personality, Lizzie has a hard time actually making real friends. She has a great knack of not sharing much about herself, while making the other person feel as though they are the most important person in the world. Few have managed to break through the unseen wall that Lizzie keeps around her heart. One person, however, not only broke through her wall, but literally shattered it – the love of her life, Travis. To him, she is his Beth, even though to all others she has always been known as Lizzie. Lizzie has been learning much more about herself and even slowly opening up more about herself to others since her marriage to Travis.
Background and History:(please make sure there is enough time in your character's life to do all that you state)
Life was never easy for Lizzie, not even from the first moments she had arrived on the Earth. She was not embraced into loving arms, as most newborns would be. Rather, Lizzie was quickly shuttled off to an orphanage, never to meet or know her biological parents.
Being such a young infant, Lizzie was at first lucky. She was taken into foster care and was expected to be adopted soon, as young children were normally quickly adopted. However, a problem with her birth parents’ records and a revolving door of those in charge of the orphanage, left Lizzie moving from one foster home to another until her 9th birthday. She had become sullen and willful as a way of acting out against the system that had denied her a true home.
It was at that time that she met Dorthea Rose. A woman well past her prime. Dorthea took in foster children that others did not want. After being kicked out of her 4th home in less than 6 months, Lizzie soon found herself on Dorthea’s doorstep. Little did she know that this experience would shape who she would become like no other. Dorthea was firm, but fair, gentle and loving, yet disciplined and no-nonsense. Lizzie at first rebelled, but soon, she found herself wishing for nothing more than to become a permanent part of Dorthea’s family. Dorthea, too, had taken a special liking to Lizzie, and though it was not her normal way, Dorthea filed for adoption. To everyone’s amazement, the adoption was approved.
Lizzie was now part of a family. She was no longer Elizabeth the poor orphan, but Lizzie Rose, daughter of Dorthea Rose. Lizzie lived in happiness for nearly 4 years, until the fateful day when Dorthea was taken from her in a terrible accident. Once again, Lizzie was alone. Once again, she was forced into the foster care system – devastated and heart-broken. She found herself stuck within the system once again... no longer wanted by anyone. Yet, even though it all, the love, kindness, and joy that Dorthea had shared with her would forever be a part of Lizzie. She was a different person. Kinder, gentler, yet guarded from her past experiences, Lizzie remained in the system until she achieved her ‘freedom’ by reaching the designated age.
Once she reached the age of ‘freedom,’ Lizzie knew she wanted nothing more than to get as far from the place that had abandoned her not once, but twice. First as nothing more than an infant, and then, again when her heart had found joy, this world had ripped it from her once again.
Lizzie quickly found a merchant vessel that needed extra hands, and her life in space began. After years of working in various position, Lizzie has learned much about the wide-reaching galaxy, how best to treat others, and so much more. Yet, though it all, Lizzie kept herself guarded. Always friendly, but never really a friend.
Her most recent job prior to the Nike was working in the Station Store at one of the Space Stations. She found she loved interacting with others, sharing their small moments of joy and helping them to find that one special something they were seeking. It made her feel, in some small, strange way, as though she was part of each of their families for the moments they spent with her in the store. It was with that experience that she applied for an opening at the Ship Store of the Nike. Lizzie quickly worked her way up the ‘ranks’ until she found herself working only under the ‘Chief Clerk’ of the store.
It was while in this position that Lizzie met the man who would turn her world upside down – one Travis Rousseau. Never before had Lizzie imagined anyone could root themselves so deeply into her heart. Yet, the moment his eyes had held hers, she had felt something, a connection, a desire she had never felt before. Over the course of their courtship, Lizzie found that opening up to Travis about her past, her present, her dreams was easier sometimes than even admitting them to herself! She had truly found her soul-mate.
Following their marriage, Lizzie soon found herself promoted to Chief Clerk of the Ships’ Store, a position she adores and hopes to maintain even after the birth of their unborn child. With excitement, nervousness, joy and trepidation, Lizzie awaits the moment she can hold her little one in her arms, to share with her the love that she felt from her own adopted mother, short a time as it might have been. Lizzie wanted nothing more than to make sure her little one knew just how much she was loved and wanted, never to feel abandoned or unworthy as she herself had been made to feel as a child. Even with all the love in her heart for Travis and their unborn child, Lizzie worried that she might not be a good enough mother, especially since she herself hadn’t had a true mothering experience growing up.

It was the eyes. Those silvery eyes that had somehow managed to capture her heart. She didn’t even know how it had happened. Now, all those many months later, Lizzie watched with watery eyes the man whom she had pledged her undying love to. He moved with such grace, she poise. She felt as though she could simply sit here, relaxing on the bed, watching him all day. And then those eyes captured hers once more. She felt her breath catch in her throat and a smile form on her lips. Her hand instinctively moved down to cradle her now protruding stomach.
“I hope she has your eyes,” Lizzie whispered. “I can lose myself in those eyes.” Her own eyes, somewhat watery now gazed upon the man who had given her a dream she hardly dared dream. A family. Her very own family, and love, love that she had longed for, glimpsed for a moment in her youth, and lost. Yet, now, now, she had so much love that it seeped forth from her eyes. Lizzie ducked her head, embarrassed by her tears. Her hand moved to swipe at the moisture, feeling both foolish and joyful all in the same moment. These many months of her pregnancy had given her such a myriad of emotions. So many new experiences, so many new emotions. Yet, through it all, the love of her soul-mate surrounded and uplifted her. Lizzie vowed to hold these thoughts forever. To never forget the feelings that enveloped her. The future looked bright and Lizzie’s heart was full of new hopes and dreams that she knew could only be better than what she could imagine. Her life with Travis so far had shown her that her greatest dreams paled in comparison to her reality. Life was good. Life was joyful. Life was…
The sound of a claxon filled the air. Lizzie’s heart raced as it did each time that blasted signal sounded. Her heart clenched. What was happening? She always knew so little. Would Travis be at risk? She couldn’t bare the thought of losing him, her own thoughts flashing back to the moment she learned of the loss of the one woman who had loved her. Her heard clenched. She knew he would have to respond to the call. It was his duty.
“Be careful, love,” she whispered. Little did she know that the next moments would alter all of their lives in ways they could hardly imagine.
