Phoebe watched and listened as the various department heads gave their reports. She processed everything with analytical precision. Based on what she had heard, this mission would likely require some cooperation and coordination with her department and science. That was hardly uncommon. Phoebe liked Alexis and had found that in spite of her apparent uneasiness in this situation she was competent and determined when things counted most.
New arrivals caught her attention. She gave them the once over before turning her attentions back to the group at large. Phoebe was about to speak when Vladik called the meeting to an end. She was a bit taken aback as not all departments had reported yet. It seemed like she was not the only one surprised as the new ops chief spoke up. Waiting until the woman completed her report, Phoebe then began her own.
“My ACMO will be on leave temporarily as his wife has just had her baby. Knowing him he will try to come back to work soon rather than later, but I have recommended a two week paternity leave to give him the opportunity to bond with his newborn. I do not anticipate that this will have a major impact on my department unless we sustain heavy injuries. I am expecting some new personnel today to fill the empty medic and nursing positions. Staff will be working longer shifts than they normally would, but it is not anything they cannot handle. I’ll be setting up meetings to get better acquainted with all the new personnel and to discuss the schedules until we have a full compliment.”
With that Phoebe picked up her tea and settled back into her seat. What was she saying? Was she staying? She could have sworn that it sounded like she was. Taking a sip of her tea, she allowed that thought to marinate.
