Basic Role-Playing Guide and Directions
PLEASE READ THE SECOND POST FOR A SAMPLE ROLE-PLAY WITH COMMENTS.
Here are some basic tips to get you started on your Role-Playing here at the USS Crudaigh:
- Post a clear title for your thread.
- To indicate who should respond to your post please but Tag: Character name or Tag: Anyone to open it to anyone on the site.
- If you are speaking directly to someone, TAG them so we all know who is to respond.
- When your character leaves a thread, please post End and your character's name.
- Once a character has Ended in a thread, you cannot tag that person within the same thread, as they have declared that they are finished RPing there for the time being.
- When the thread is finished, please edit its title to say [Finished], so we all know to move it to the Archives.
- When your thread is finished, post a quick paragraph summary in the Plot thread so we can all know what has happened.
Basic Writing Tips for Your Posts
- Write your posts as though you are a narrator telling the story, NOT in the first person.
- Write in the PAST tense. Narrators describe actions as having already happened. **See the sample post below for an example of this.**
- Respond to other characters actions and dialogue. Make sure to ask questions or DO something for someone else to be able to react to. While thoughts are wonderful and help us get to know your character, an entire post of nothing but thought makes it hard for others to respond to you.
- Don't be afraid to start a new post, or even PM another member to invite them to post with you.
- Make sure you NEVER write actions or words for another player character unless they have given you permission or done something for you to react to.
- Don't be afraid to use NPC (Non-Player Characters) in your post. **In the sample below, you will see the 'other' crew calls out, AND the daughter is acting as a NPC character.
