►Personality◄
Xian seems mysterious and different. People see her as serious and studious; at times spontaneous, mischievous and even brash. She is highly independent and self-sufficient. Her exceptional intelligence and wisdom are quickly noticed, and people respect her. Xian is not one to attract people on the basis of her warmth or compassion - though she may be loaded with both - but because of her obvious insight into life's mysteries. She is hard to get to know, and is often withdrawn. It is common for people to see Xian's focus turn inside of herself in the middle of a conversation. She has the makings of an intellectual and an aristocrat but she has to guard against arrogance and an attitude that comes across as condescending. Xian is spiritual but not religious, with her own ideas regarding the purpose of life and the Creator. She is an inspired speaker, and shines when discussing subjects that really interest her. Her love of knowledge and wisdom shows.
►History◄
Xian Alexis Chen was born on stardate 43921.42 (3 DEC 2366) in New Seattle, Pangaea on the planet Izar (a Class M planet located in the Epsilon Boötis system of the Alpha Quadrant). Fourth generation born into a prominent and respected family; Xian had an ideal upbringing. Her first trial and tragedy came at the age of nine when her father was killed in an accidental cave in that occurred in a portion of New Seattle that was under construction. A total of 168 lives were lost. His death impacted her greatly and is something she still has difficulty coping with to this day.
Her drive and tenacity set her on a path that led her to Starfleet. At the academy she proved to have a cunning mind and natural affinity for leadership. Her studies placed her on a command track. Xian applied herself and stayed focused on her career goals. While she indulged in social activities, she never allowed anything or anyone to deter her from her path.
Xian’s first assignment was as Tactical Officer on the USS Intrepid. Late in her first year aboard that vessel they were called as support and present when Romulus was destroyed. Heroic action on her part led to the awarding of the Prentares Ribbon of Commendation as well as entry into Starfleet Command School. Her tenacity and single-mindedness aided her well in her studies. She graduated 4th in her class; earning herself a promotion and assignment aboard the USS Centaur. That assignment placed her in numerous conflicts and combat situations earning her rank and a Silver Palm. Her commanding officer saw something special in her and recommended her for Advanced Technical Training.
When that training was complete, Xian was stationed as a Deputy Intelligence and Tactical Officer on the Defiant-class starship Horizon. She served aboard that vessel for seven years and was then transferred to the Galaxy-class starship Venture where she served as XO for another seven years. Now Admiral Rell has given Xian her chance to command her own vessel as Captain of the USS Nike.

►Sample Role Play◄
Xian sat in her office going over the staff reviews that had been submitted by the various department heads. The wanderlust in her made these tedious administrative tasks seem as though they took twice as long as the actually did. She often found herself bouncing a knee in restless anticipation of any task that would be more physically taxing than leaning over a terminal as she sat at her desk.
The familiar chime signaling that someone was at her door broke her train of thought. It was a welcome reprieve. Xian activated the privacy screen up to hide the personnel data open on her terminal and looked up at the door resting her hands in her lap before saying, “Enter.”
"Sir," she said quickly raising to her feet once she noted that is was her commanding officer that had entered the room.
"At ease Chen," he said as he made his way into her office and crossed the short distance to stand in front of her.
Xian looked up at him with anticipation as to what he may have to say that brought him to her office rather than summoning her to his. It was an uncommon occurrence so her suspicions were roused.
"I wanted to be the first to congratulate you," he said with a glint of mirth in his eye.
"Sir?" Xian had no idea what the congratulations were for.
He stood looking at her for a few moments. His countenance changed slightly showing a twinge of sadness behind his smile.
"I'm very proud and pleased to be the one to inform you of your promotion and new posting." He stepped closer to her, placing her rank pip on her uniform.
There were no words as she stood staring at the man she'd served as XO for for seven years.
He clasped her by the hand. "Captain of the galaxy-class starship, USS Nike."
