Personality
Xander is a quiet, serious man. Not overly social, he's private and tends to keep to himself off duty. More over, he's known for his reliability and his ability to stay calm under pressure. He's a bit of a mystery to most; he does not like talking about himself and very few know more about him than what is on his permanent record. Xander is soft spoken but direct and thinks carefully before he speaks; he prefers having all the information he can before he weighs in on any topic. He is also surprisingly humble; though he is highly skilled in Martial Arts, he does not show off or even speak of it often, preferring to train in the holodecks alone.
History
Born in Oklahoma in the United States, Xander was one of the few remaining members of the Choctaw tribe still living on Earth. Having refused to abandon their lands when the rest of their tribes moved off-world, his family was poor, but over all, a closely knit group. Though Xander loved his family, their traditions and the land that they cared for, he was determined to see more of the world than the small section of Oklahoma where he'd been raised. With his family's support, he studied hard, and on his third application to Starfleet Academy, he was accepted. The work ethic he had learned from childhood served him well at the academy, though he often felt out of place; so focused on graduating and making his family proud, he found little time for friendships and socialized with very few of his classmates. He found his niche in security training, becoming a black-belt in the ancient martial art of Judo. He graduated with honors and began his career, but still keeps in close contact with his father, mother and siblings.
He spent his first two years as part of a small security crew for the USS Davinci, a science vessel. Though it was quiet and he enjoyed it, he found little in the way of real satisfaction. Transferring to Deep Space Six, he settled into his role as a security officer there, eventually being promoted to Junior Grade Lieutenant. When the position opened for the Assistant Head of Security for the USS Nike, he applied for a transfer, wanting to further expand his career. With the acceptance of the transfer, he was promoted to Lieutenant.

Sample Role Play
"Halito, Sioshi." Dom Redfeather's face was clear as Xander answered the ship communique. "How is the new assignment?"
The weathered face held a wide and gentle smile, but Xander couldn't help but notice that there was more grey than black now in his father's long hair.
"Good morning, Father." He shrugged noncommittally. "So far so good. I've not had anyone ask me to do a rain dance yet." The deep voice was droll. "But I'm still waiting."
There was a burst of laughter and a murmur from behind his father, followed by a slight pause. "Well your mother says you can always humor them and then turn on the shipwide sprinkler system." His father leaned towards the screen with a glint in his eye. "Wear the garb. Make it look good."
He couldn't help but shake his head and chuckle. "I hardly think that the Captain will appreciate your sense of humor, Aki. But I'll keep it in mind."
He had been about to continue with his mother moved the screen towards her, blocking his father from giving her son further ideas. "So...my dear son, have you met new people? Made friends?" Her smile was expectant.
"Mother, it's a new ship. Of course I've met new people." He continued, having made the statement many times in the past." And no, I've not met a girl yet and no there are no grandchildren on the way." He watched his mother sigh and nod but answered her next question before she even asked it. "Yes, I will let you know if that changes. I just arrived and I need to get settled before I even think of it." He held up a hand, forestalling her next words. "But I'm not thinking about it right now, Hvshki. Some day, some time."
Xander's father turned the screen back to him. "Go on now. Stop pestering him about that. Xander, we have to go. There's a meeting tonight, but we'll message you later. Sage wants to talk to you before you get out of range. "
The thought of his youngest sister made him smile gently. "Of course. "
An expression of wistfulness passed over his father's face. "Be careful, Sioshi. Come home soon."
"Always."
