Patrick slipped inside the holodeck and ordered the computer to load a holographic theater program. Yes, theater of all things. He wanted to relax and in the past, back at home, he would sit back and watch a production. He loved the lights, the costumes, the...everything. It was his secret passion, a fragment of his life that he rarely told people about.

There was science and then there was art. He adored them both in their special way.

With a container of popcorn in his hands he took a seat in one of the chairs and raised his eyes to look upon the latest production of Guys and Dolls--acted and song by and entire assembly of holographic actors and actressses.

"I gotta horse right here, his name is Paul Reverie..." he murmured underneath his breath with the singer." Now this was his idea of a good time. He hoped no one would ever find out. When John had he had never let him live it down. How they became friends after that was still a mystery, but they had in time. He'd even convinced his old friend to join him and he had on more than one occasion. Those had been good times.

Nothing better to do now that all the heads were enjoying a meeting, he figured he could watch at least 30 minutes of it before going back to work. Alexis wouldn't miss him, he knew. Hell, this was a new ship so no one would.

Popping a piece of popcorn into his mouth he bobbed his head with the music.

[First Lieutenant Yadira]

She'd come to the holodeck for a workout before grabbing some lunch. She'd been up quite eary and checked out all the security posts around Cargo Bay two. She knew that Mr. Ropalski would have to realease she and her platoon sooner or later to Colonel Richards command but in the meantime she'd have to operate under his authority, not that she liked that a whole lot.

It wasn't that she didn't care for him... he just wasn't a Marine. He was competent and decent in a fight but didn't wear the uniform of the 'few the proud'.

She got where she had intended to go but someone was there first. "Guys and Dolls" what in the universe could that possibly be?

She decided to check it out.

What met her senses was a darkened theater with some sort of human stage production. She loved Klingon Opera but hadn't heard of this type of thing before.

"can do... can do, this guys says the horse can do."

But they were singing. Not like anything she'd heard before Although at the end of the song they claimed to have a horse which she knew to be a earth animal yet she didn't see one on the stage.

"I've got the horse.... right.... here!"

"I don't see a horse" she said loudly.

The end of the song would have been ruined by the unwelcomed intrusion of a Nike officer had it been anyone other than a beautiful female officer. Patrick almost jumped out of his skin at the exclamation. He gripped the arms of the seat and turned at the waist to peer through the darkness at the woman. First he was embarrassed that he'd been found watching such a thing, but that was soon replaced by shock and then amusement at the woman's expense. She really looked serious. Had it been someone from earth he probably would have laughed in their face and called them dim, but this lady was obviously klingon so he let her words flow in one ear, flutter around in the sarcastic center of his brain and then flutter right out the other ear into space.

He stood from his seat, sitting the bag of popcorn aside. "There's no horse...not really. They're making bets. Their gamblers you see," he said smiling genuinely, and interestedly at the woman. He took in her uniform and green shirt. He'd seen others like her walking around the ship. Military. Having the marines onboard was a bit deterring, but welcome all the same. He felt safer with them onboard. It was the peace of mind that they offered that made him feel a lot more protected while a crew of the Nike.

The show went on behind them. Lines were being said with the utmost ease and precision. One of the things he enjoyed about holodeck performances. There were no nerves or hesitant delivery of lines.

Patrick dropped his gaze for a moment and then looked back at the woman. "Care to join me?" He said gesturing to the seat to his left. "It'll make more sense if you see it through to the end. Trust me." His smile was one of faltering embarrassment and confidence. He waited for her to accept of decline. Either way he would stay to enjoy the show.

Yadira wasn't quite sure what to make of the production in front of her. It didn't quite make sense to her Klingon brain but then there were a lot of human things that didn't make much sense to her.

"There's no horse...not really. They're making bets. They're gamblers you see,"

He was friendly for a Starfleet Officer she thought. They usually looked down their noses at marines. Sure they knew they could sleep easier with them around but there was still an overtone. Yet he seemed interested in explaining this artform to her.

Her eyes were glued to the stage behind him and when he offered her a seat she looked directly into his eyes and saw a genuine interest. She could take no offense and neither had he at her ouburst.

She smiled slightly

"It'll make more sense if you see it through to the end. Trust me."

She eased into the seat next to him and watched the events unfold. This was an interesting form of art. They talked and they sang, not as heavy and heroic as her native opera yet she enjoyed it.

She nodded and looked at him during a pause. "Yadira" she said by way of introduction.

Patrick slid back into his seat intent to watch the rest of the show, but he found that his eyes strayed to the side more often than they should. He watched her reaction--reveled in her excitement and confusion as the show unfolded before her eyes. She looked just like him when he'd seen his first play. It had been confusing at first. The singing was a bit much, the acting overdone, but at the end he'd asked for more.

During a change of scenery Patrick glanced at the woman, whose name he had forgotten to ask. It must be something beautiful for she was an attractive woman.

"Yadira."

Yes. Fitting.

"Patrick," he said, his lips quirking upward into a tiny smirk before turning back to the performance on stage. It was the Havana scene, one of the funniest in the entire show. He watched as they took their seats and Sky took it upon himself to order a 'milk' for his date--Dolce De Leche. Before long the poor woman was a lush and was literally falling over herself. A brawl ensued as Sky grabbed the attention of another more sultry looking female.

The show went on like that and Patrick lost himself in it all. Thirty minutes had come and gone, but he didn't care. After the ship was up and running again he doubted if he'd be able to have a moment to himself.

The first act came to an end.

"How are you enjoying the show so far?" he asked, leaning onto the sidearm of his chair.

She was beginning to get the story and follow about the gambling... like Ferengi they were betting on odd things. She did not really get some of the basis of the story but at the end of the first act she began to think she would have to try the "Dolce de Leche" it must be powerful like Bloodwine. The female lead got very drunk and tried to fight. She was a bad fighter and it was funny.

"How are you enjoying the show so far?"

She looked at him with a smile. "It is interesting. This appears to be from an early period in Earth history. Am I right?"

The music was memorable... all in all this was a pleasant experience.

"Yes, this is a very old production. I doubt if anyone remembers it, but my mother loved history and theater and this," he gestured toward the stage, "is one of the things she enjoyed. I just happened to start liking it too."

He fell silent then. He never talked about himself because he wanted to keep everyone at arms length, but Yadira looked genuinely interested so he figured he's share--if only a small portion of this life.

They watched the show to the end and he clapped as the holographic actors and actresses bowed. The players disappeared and the stage was left illuminated by one center light.

Patrick turned to Yadira. "Tell me about your world. What is theater like where you are from?"

"...and this," he gestured toward the stage, "is one of the things she enjoyed. I just happened to start liking it too."

She could see the attraction and she liked the story line. The songs were good and the dancing... while she'd never really want to participate she had to say that the large groups dancing together was almost like an exciting thing like a battle.

She roared her approval and then applauded like she saw Patrick doing grinning at him in her approval of the art form.

"Tell me about your world. What is theater like where you are from?"

"Klinon Opera is the nearest thing to this and is rather an acquired taste." she said with a smile, "It is very heroic and normally quite loud."

She felt at ease with this man which was unusual with regards to humans who were not marines.

Of course she had already noted that he was quite well muscled for a human and perhaps that helped color her opinion.

"I have enjoyed some of it" she said "But I really enjoyed this Guys and Dolls. Are there more of them?"
