The First of Many Early Mornings

[Lizzie Rousseau]

Lizzie had all but conked out on the bed after they had returned to their quarters the night before. It was hard to believe she had still been pregnant at this time yesterday. She awoke with a smile on her face, realizing that if little Allison had cried last night, Travis must have taken care of it. She hadn't heard a single sound.

Lifting her head, she noted he was still asleep. She smiled once again and traced her fingers along his chest, before rolling over to get up out of the bed. She still ached, but the medications had helped ease any hurt. Walking a bit slowly, she pulled on her robe and made her way to little Allison.

"Good morning, sweetheart," she whispered and then reached in and picked up her from the bassinet. Carrying a sleeping Allison out to the living room, Lizzie sat down on the sofa with a sigh. She ran her finger along her daughter's face, watching as her tiny mouth puckered a bit, yet she slept on. Lizzie was content to simply sit and watch her child, her little miracle.

[Lt. Commander Travis Rousseau]

Travis grunted and rolled in his sleep. His arms made a beeline move to stretch around Lizzie, but they met nothing put air and a warm sheet. His eyes slowly flickered open and he peered at the indention made by her, though she was no longer there to fill it.

He sighed and rolled onto his back, straining his ears for any sign of movement. It was then that he heard her in the next room talking to Allison.

Ah Allison! Their little bundle of joy that had kept him awake all night. He had known that Lizzie was exhausted after giving birth to their daughter so he took it upon himself to appease their daughter's wishes throughout the night. She had awaken at ten, then eleven thirty, twelve-forty five and on and on like that until the morning. He'd just clambered into the bed around seven, which, he looked at the clock, was only forty-five minutes ago. What a night!

Rubbing his tired eyes, he exhaustedly pushed himself up out of bed and tugged on a shirt and slippers. Though he wa utterly exhausted he would not miss the chance to see Lizzie with their daughter during their first morning together. It was too priceless a moment.

Racking his fingers through his fly away hair, he made his way to the sitting room and it was there that he fell in love all over again. There she was cradling Allie in her arms. Their daughter looked like a baby doll in her arms. She was so small and so very fragile. Lizzie looked well rested. Her cheeks were blushing with life and love and there was a sort of early morning glow to her face that reminded him of their wedding day. She had never looked more gorgeous.

"Morning, sweetheart," he said as he moved over to the sofa to sit at his love's side. He stroked her brunette curls aside and pressed a firm kiss on her cheek.

"Has Allie told you about our eventful night together?" he joked. He grinned toothily at his daughter before slouching back onto the sofa with another tiresome sigh. He was happy. So very happy. He'd do it all over again if he had to.

"Morning, sweetheart. Has Allie told you about our eventful night together?"

"Good morning," Lizzie replied with a smile. "Thank you for last night. I vaguely remember hearing her cry, but blessedly I slept through most of it." Lizzie shifted so she could plant a kiss on his cheek. "You are my knight in shining armor." Sitting there, looking at him, holding her daughter in her arms, Lizzie felt an overwhelming urge to cry. Not a sad feeling, but rather from happiness. Her heart was so full it nearly hurt. She tried to swallow down the emotions that were assaulting her. Even though her eyes glimmered with unshed tears, she smiled happily at her love.

"Allie is simply amazing, isn't she? And she's really ours and she's really here." Lizzie couldn't help but ramble on as she bursting with pride, joy, happiness and even fear that she would somehow do her daughter wrong. She knew so little about babies. Would she really be able to give her the life she, herself, had never had?

She ran her finger along Allison's tiny face. Then, she gently picked up her hand and held it in her own. "She's beautiful, isn't she?" Lizzie turned and looked at Travis with love in her gaze. Love for him and love for her tiny infant daughter. It was so overwhelming, yet so joyful at the same time. She was an emotional whirlwind and Travis was her anchor.

It had been a difficult night, the tosses, the nightmares that filled his mind during the night and again whenever he would blink for the next few hours of the morning. Robin had quickly eat his breakfast and suited up a uniform, he was up early and for good reason.

He had a baby to say hello to.

Robin glanced at the mirror and perked an eyebrow at his weird looking hair, it was all stemming towards the left as if being pulled. Robin ran a hand through his hair and shrugged, good enough. Turning around he began looking for his gift, where was it?! Oh boy (or girl).

After a quick ransacking of his own quarters Robin finally found it and without bothering tidy up left his quarters in a dash, it was still early, he hoped they wouldn't mind knocking at their door.

Robin reached the door of the happy couple and couldn't help but smile to himself before reaching for the panel and beeping the usual beep, a small lightly colored wrapped box in his other hand.

"Good morning," Lizzie replied with a smile. "Thank you for last night. I vaguely remember hearing her cry, but blessedly I slept through most of it."

"You slept like an angel. Snores and all," he said accepting Lizzie's kiss with a smile. He shifted closer to Lizzie's side, placing a comforting hand on her lower back as she spoke of their daughter.

"She's her mother's daughter. Could we expect anything less?" Travis gazed back adoringly at his wife, smiling gently before bridging the space between them and kissing her softly on the lips. "I love you," he whispered against her lips as they slowly parted. He rubbed his nose against hers, content to stay in their little bubble of happiness, but it appeared that they had to pull off their rose colored glasses sooner rather than later.

Travis glanced at the door as the chime sounded. "Who could that possibly be?" Travis said frowning a bit. Nick or Phoebe perhaps? It could be a number of people and his curiosity got the better of him.

Moving to the door, Travis ordered the computer to unlock the door. It opened with ease. Before him stood, not his medical buddies, but Robin Star of all people. Travis grinned and gestured for the man to enter. He eyed the little box in his hands and his smile grew even more.

"Morning Lieutenant. What brings you to our quarters this morning?" It was a silly question, given the obvious present in his hands, but he figured he'd ask anyway. Just for the sake of asking.

As Robin waited he couldn't but feel slightly nervous, maybe he should come back later? He was sure they the new family would love to be alone all by themselves, happy and all and he suddenly felt he might be intruding on this family's time.

However he couldn't turn back, not with the doors opening to reveal the new dad. Robin grinned back at Travis, he had recieved as many healings from him just as he had from Nick and Phoebe.

"Morning," Robin replied as he took a step forward into the warm quarters, looking at Lizzie and the baby, smiled at both before glancing back at Travis.

"Hmm, you're looking a little bloated, it must be the baby weight." Robin said to Travis, his grin holding all the laughter he was tempted to release. Now Travis giving birth, that was one scary image to say the least. Robin turned a little more serious before continuing.

"Just thought I'd stop by to say hello and give ya this," Robin held out the package to Travis, "It's for..." Robin blinked and then looked at the baby, "Uh, have you decided on a name?"

[Lizzie Rousseau]

Lizzie was content to stay by Travis's side, holding little Allie in her arms all day long. The sound of the door chime drew a sigh from her. She wasn't really surprised. She had had a feeling that some of the crew might drop by to offer their congratulations and meet the new little bundle of joy she cradled so lovingly in her arms.

Looking up, her face broke into a smile. Robin. She knew him from his visits to the stores from time to time and from Travis's tales of Robin's many...adventures.

"Hello Robin," she called out with a smile. Then she chuckled at his comment about Travis and baby weight. Now that was truly amusing.

"Oh, Robin, thank you so much," Lizzie said for them both as she watched him hand the package to Travis. "Would you like to come meet little Allison?" Lizzie shifted her arms to allow him a chance to see the little cherubic face of her daughter, who at just that moment decided to open her eyes and look around at the world.

"Travis, why don't you see what Robin has brought for us. Come, both of you," Lizzie used one hand to pat at the couch. "Come sit down or you'll make me feel like I should stand with you and honestly after yesterday, I'd much rather be sitting." She grinned at them both as she brushed her fingers along Allie's fuzzy scalp. So little hair. Yet Lizzie knew it would grow in one day soon.

Robin could feel the nervousness beginning to subside as he Liz welcomed him to say hello to their little baby. Robin approached the couch and sat down, looking at the little girl closely. "Allison... lovely choice." He said quietly, his head tilting to the side as he looked into those little orbs.

"I know lots of people say that someone's baby is beautiful but she really is, your side definitely... not sure about Travis." Robin said with a grin at Travis to show he was joking, he wasn't a bad looking lad otherwise he wouldn't have such a wonderful wife, and a family.

Robin's thoughts went back to the gift, "Oh uh, there might be something wrong with the present, I uh thought it would be a boy." Robin admitted sheepishly.

"Hmm, you're looking a little bloated, it must be the baby weight."

Travis scrunched up his face, pretending to be offended and then laughed. "You should have seen me yesterday," he said, taking the small package from Robin with a warm smile on his face.

He stood back and watched the interaction between Lizzie and Robin, finally sitting down as Robin moved in and took a seat at his wife's side.

It was hard to describe how he felt in that moment. He was a father now and he'd never been more pleased with himself than he was at that moment. Robin's words pleased him even more. Allison really was gorgeous and perfect in every way. Lizzie looked in her element, but then again she'd been preparing for motherhood for quite some time. He remembered nights when she would talk about Allison before she arrived. She had planned so meticulously for her arrival that, now that she was here, she could finally breathe and let nature take its course. It really was a remarkable sight.

"Oh uh, there might be something wrong with the present, I uh thought it would be a boy."

Oh. The gift!

"I'm sure it'll be perfect," he said opening it, revealing a little shuttle with the name Rousseau branded along the side. Travis looked up from it and a goofy grin played on his lips.

"I should have known," he said, hinting at Robin's career as helmsman of the Nike. The man was born to fly and now, if Allison wanted, so would she. He noticed the male pilot, but he didn't mind. "It's perfect."

Travis rose and moved over so Lizzie could see. "Perhaps Allie will grow up and out fly even you," he said chuckling to himself.

Robin shared Travis's goofy look, grinning at his little comment. What other person would think of a shuttle as a present? Robin pursed his lips to his lips from glowing a radiant smile at Travis's thoughts. It was perfect. Robin was even more pleased that he could still give some happiness to others.

"Perhaps Allie will grow up and out fly even you,"

"Oh that I doubt," Robin replied his tone fully of cockiness, he was good at he knew it but then, there was that saying, they were always someone better. Robin looked at little Allie and smiled, she just might, if she did choose to fly.

Lizzie laughed, a joyous sound, as she patted Robin on the shoulder with a wink. "Of course she's from my side. She is after all a girl." Lizzie's eyes twinkled as she looked up at Travis with a playful smile. "But I hope she grows up to be just like her daddy. Strong. Confident. Loving." Lizzie's voice nearly cracked on that last comment, and she found she had to blink back tears of emotion.

Thankfully, Travis chose just the moment to open Robin's gift, which took the attention away from her nearly emotional moment. Lizzie smiled and reached for the little shuttle as Travis brought it to her side.

"Here Allie. Look you can soar through space now all on your own." Lizzie danced the little shuttle in front of her daughter's face. "I swear she smiled!" Lizzie declared looking up at the other two with happy shock on her face. "She loves it Robin!" Lizzie couldn't help it, she leaned over and hugged him with one arm while the other cradled little Allison.

"Thank you. Maybe someday you can teach her to fly," she added, planting a chaste, friendly kiss on his cheek. Then, leaning back, she glanced over at Travis again, before looking back at Robin. "Would you like to hold her?" Lizzie shifted her arms to indicate to Robin exactly what she meant.

Robin watched Lizzie guide the little shuttle in front of Allison's eyes and saw her little lips quirk, Robin blinked wondering if he saw what he thought he saw. Liz's sudden declaration almost made him jump but her heart warming words kept him melded to the couch. Robin felt his heart skip a beat at her comment of teaching little Ally to fly one day, it was an exciting idea and it even held a bit of prospected fear.

To teach someone and let those teachings guide them, it was an important role, whatever you taught , the lessons create something new in someone one way or another.

"No problem," Was all Robin could really say, he was thrilled that the two liked it, or maybe two and a half. Robin glanced at the little girl's face, definitely three. Thinking that he was beginning to over stay his welcome, Robin opened his mouth to say something but the ship clerk beat him to it.

"Would you like to hold her?"

It took a long second to register what she had said, she was offering to let him hold Allison? Robin gulped and smiled a soft grin. "I... I don't want to drop her." He said and that was certainly something he didn't want.

There was no doubt in his mind that Robin would be as gentle with Allie as he was with the Nike. He didn't need to watch over him so, smiling at Robin's hesitation he added "she's not glass. Hold her if you want. I don't mind."

Travis crossed over and kissed Lizzie on the forehead. "I'll be in the shower," he murmured before retreating back into the bedroom.

Travis grabbed a change of clothes; something casual since he didn't have to work for the next two weeks, and slipped inside the bathroom for a quick shower.

[Lizzie Rousseau]

Lizzie smiled kindly at him, "It's alright Robin. You won't hurt her. I promise." She couldn't hide the joy and amusement she felt at his slight hesitation. He had been so thoughtful to come by, and now he hesitated. Perhaps, seeing little Allie would make Robin consider having a little family of his own someday...that was if they could find him the right girl. Now that thought held promise. Lizzie made a mental note to come back to that idea in the future, after things had settled down a bit.

Reaching up she gently gave Travis' wrist a squeeze as he made his way out of the room to his shower.

Turning back to Robin, she demonstrated how to gently hold a newborn child and waited for him to take the initiative and reach for little Allison.
