Jonathan was on his way towards the bridge. He had been reading over the schematics off the ship prior arrival and was at first overwhelmed by the size. He hadn't believed that Starfleet had just enormous vessels within his fleet. Just another reason why he should keep regular tabs on Starfleet ship design, and not their weapon designs.
It was important to be aware of the arsenals of your enemy but even more imperative to know your friend's abilities, and weaknesses. The marine colonel turned a corner and stopped when he saw a small shape on the ground. Though after a few seconds he realized it was a little girl on the floor, her head resting on her clamped together knees. Jon glanced at the ground and noted the small moist area on the floor. She had been crying.
Jon's feet carried him to just in front of the girl, his shadow covering her but the shadow lifted as he crouched down in front of her.
"Hey." He said softly.
The girl let out a squeak and snapped her head up to see a large man before him. He looked nice and gentle, a friendly bear with no fur! Jonathan saw that the girl was holding something in her lap, he hadn't seen it when her head was down. The object in her hands was a small doll of a woman he guessed, he wasn't sure but the doll had a dress on, worn but still a dress.
Clutching the doll tighter and raising it to her knees the little girl muffled out a shy 'hi'. Jonathan only smiled in return, "Are you lost?" He inquired.
Jonathan received a nod from the little girl and was about to say something when he saw the muscles in her skin twitch around her lips. He remained silent.
"Me and Wendi were with mummy and then she stopped to talk to someone..." Tears swelled in her eyes, "I took a walk and... and." A small tear flowed freely down her freckled cheek.
Jonathan deduced that she must of took a wrong turn and couldn't find her way back to her mother and he was quite sure that this 'Wendi' was the doll. Jonathan raised a hand and placed it on the girl's shoulder but regretted it when he saw the girl flinch. His eyes glanced to his hand... his robotic hand. It looked so real and yet it felt so fake.
Jonathan removed his hand and opted for what he hoped was a gentle smile. "Let's find your mother." He said and the girl let out a little squeal of joy and wrapped her arms around Jon's unsuspecting neck. Jonathan made a face and saw his own bemused look in the reflection of the bulkhead, it almost resulted in a squeal from him too.
A more manly squeal, of course.
"Up and away!" Jon joked as he gently picked her up and then realized at that moment she hadn't just been crying. Jonathan would just have to make sure he didn't shake hands with the Captain.
Jonathan looked around, "Which direction did you come from?" He asked as the girl made a loud 'hm' sound and then pointed to behind him. "That way!"
That was it was.
"No that way!" So kids made mistakes, so what? Jonathan turned around and took a step forward. "Uh... the other way!" Jonathan restrained from letting out a deep sigh. The marine didn't move and instead waited...
"Oh, it's the other way, I'm positive!"
Jonathan moved forward but he hadn't even took a step when a voice sounded from behind him. "Alice! Oh Alice!" Jonathan turned and smiled at the woman that ran towards him, sounded like the girl's mother to him.
"Get your hands off her!"
...Uh?
"Muuuuuum, he wa-"
"Oh Alice, shh... you need your rest, I've been so worried about you. I should never of let that guy suggest those..." The woman stopped as she caught herself from her daydreaming gaze about those 'suggestions'.
Jonathan raised an eyebrow at the woman, yes; very motherly. The soldier slowly reached out and let the mother take her daughter back into her own arms. He smiled at her but only got a glare in return. The woman turned and huffed off with her daughter and 'Wendi' looking back at him over his shoulder.
I suppose 'thank you for looking after my daughter' doesn't need to be said
The little girl waved a fleeing good bye as she turned the corner which more than made up for the woman's lack of gratitude, or sense. Jonathan grinned at the girl and gave her a little wave. Granted of course, he could of been anyone.
Jonathan turned around and began continued his venture towards the bridge.
